Samskaras are the grooves we create in our brain/mind when we do something once, twice, three-times – thereby creating a pattern. The idea is to create grooves that are beneficial and over-ride the grooves that aren’t beneficial. For example, my desire to create a more yogic lifestyle by practicing asana (poses) everyday. The days I don’t, or am not able to, get to the mat- it is believed imagining that I’m on the mat will take the place of actually being there. The more details I imagine, the greater the ‘groove’ I create. Instead of beating ourselves up for missing a day on the mat – we should forgive ourselves and go through a mental practice of asana to further strengthen our dedication to our practice.
